Springboks Reload as World Cup Winners Return for Argentina Test.

South Africa have named a formidable squad for this weekend’s Rugby Championship clash against Argentina, with head coach Rassie Erasmus recalling several experienced World Cup winners as the Springboks begin a crucial stretch of the international season.

Among the biggest returnees are captain Siya Kolisi, veteran lock Eben Etzebeth and fly-half Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu, all of whom will make their first appearances of 2026 after recovering from injury. Their return significantly strengthens the Springboks ahead of the one-off Test in Buenos Aires.

Experience Returns at the Right Time

Kolisi and Etzebeth, both two-time Rugby World Cup champions, bring leadership and experience back into the squad after lengthy injury absences.

Feinberg-Mngomezulu also returns after missing South Africa’s July victories over England, Scotland and Wales. The 24-year-old has been handed the No. 10 jersey, with Handré Pollard providing cover from the bench.

Erasmus Signals Intent

Coach Rassie Erasmus has made it clear that the Springboks are treating the Argentina Test as an important step before the highly anticipated four-match series against New Zealand, which begins later this month.

The South African coach believes the returning players need competitive match time while maintaining the depth that has made the Springboks one of the world’s strongest rugby nations.

Competition Driving Success

Speaking ahead of the match, Feinberg-Mngomezulu praised the competitive culture within the Springbok camp, saying senior players continue to mentor younger teammates despite competing for the same positions.

He highlighted Pollard’s support, describing the World Cup-winning fly-half as both a mentor and a friend who continues to help him prepare for international rugby.

Eyes on a Bigger Prize

Saturday’s encounter with Argentina is more than a standalone international. It represents the beginning of South Africa’s preparations for another demanding Rugby Championship campaign and a key opportunity for returning stars to prove their fitness.

With experienced leaders back in the squad and emerging talents continuing to impress, the Springboks will be aiming to build momentum before renewing one of rugby’s greatest rivalries against the All Blacks later this month.
