Africa is becoming an increasingly important growth engine for Vodafone Group, after the telecommunications giant reported strong performance from its African operations during the first quarter of its 2027 financial year.
For the quarter ending June 30, 2026, Vodafone’s revenue from Africa increased by 14.8% year-on-year to €2.2 billion, highlighting the continent’s growing contribution to the company’s global business.
The company also recorded strong growth in service revenue, which rose 15.1% to €1.79 billion, supported by rising demand for mobile data, digital financial services and other technology-driven solutions across its African markets.
The results reinforce Africa’s position as one of Vodafone’s fastest-growing regions as millions of consumers and businesses continue to adopt digital platforms.
Africa Continues to Deliver Double-Digit Growth
Vodafone’s African operations maintained the strong momentum recorded in previous financial periods.
Organic service revenue growth across Africa reached 12.6%, driven largely by increased mobile data consumption and expanding digital services.
As smartphone adoption increases across African countries, telecom companies are benefiting from higher demand for internet access, online services and digital payments.
The latest results follow a strong performance in Vodafone’s previous financial year, where the company recorded 12.9% organic service revenue growth in Africa, demonstrating the consistency of the continent’s contribution to its overall expansion strategy.
Digital Services Become a Major Growth Driver
Africa’s telecommunications industry is rapidly moving beyond traditional voice services.
While mobile calls and messaging remain important, operators are increasingly generating revenue from data services, mobile money platforms, cloud solutions and digital products.
Vodafone’s African businesses are benefiting from this transformation as consumers rely more heavily on smartphones for banking, business operations, entertainment and communication.
The growth of digital economies across Africa is creating opportunities for telecom operators to become broader technology companies rather than only connectivity providers.
Vodafone’s African Footprint Expands Across Key Markets
Vodafone’s presence on the continent is largely connected to its investment in Vodacom, which operates across several African markets.
The company’s African businesses have significant exposure in countries including South Africa, Egypt, Tanzania, Mozambique, Lesotho and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Vodafone has also strengthened its position in East Africa through its increased investment in Safaricom, Kenya’s leading telecommunications company and the operator behind the successful M-Pesa mobile financial services platform.
Safaricom has become one of Africa’s most valuable technology companies, with its digital payment ecosystem serving millions of customers across Kenya and beyond.
Safaricom Deal Strengthens Vodafone’s Future in Africa
Vodafone has raised its financial expectations for the 2027 financial year following a major transaction that increased Vodacom’s stake in Safaricom from 35% to 55%.
